Artist statement: Everything I conjure begins with intuition and then is based on research. My concern is to depict the information visually, using art as a tool with which to communicate the integration of heart and mind.
Anna Grima (b. 1958 Malta) is a multi-disciplinary artist working in painting, drawing and illustration, creative writing and print-making. Although considered a figurative artist, recent abstract art explores themes of polarities, spirituality and identity with form and colour. Anna studied art at the National School of Arts, Malta, the Accademia di Belle Arti, Perugia, and in 2015 graduated with a Master of Fine Art in Digital Arts from the University of Malta’s Department of Knowledge and Media Sciences. From 2015 to 2020, she conducted workshops in Negotiated Practice for the UOM’s BA in Digital Arts students.
She was the first woman commissioned by the Government of Malta to design a set of stamps featuring Anniversaries and Events in Malta. Notable key works include The Story of Earth and Sky (1995) exhibited in Geneva, Switzerland during United Nations celebrations of the Fourth World Conference in Beijing in 1995; Twelve Thoughts on the Path to Integration (2000) at St James Cavalier (Spazju Kreattiv); Art+Feminism at Spazju Kreattiv (2020); Id-Dinja M’Għadiex Ċatta (2018) at the European Court of Auditors, Luxembourg; and Mediterranean Goddesses at Mdina Cathedral Contemporary Biennale, Mdina Museum (2015) and (2023).
