Women in Sport Maja Theuma
Maja Theuma is a 22-year-old S6 Maltese paralympic swimmer. She forms part of the Exiles Sc team and is part of the National Paralympic team.
During her swimming career she took part in various national and international competitions; World Para Swimming Championships, World Paraswimming European Open Championships and World Para swimming Series. She is currently ranked the 4th fastest swimmer internationally in the 200m S6 category.
Maja is also the Para Athlete Representative of Malta. As a Para Athlete Representative, she strives in ensuring that the voice of local athletes is represented in a collaborative, professional and effective manner and that all athletes’ viewpoints remain the centre of the decision making process.
Maja’s experience and knowledge brings new perspectives and ideas to the Athlete Council, supporting athletes on and off the playing field. Maja is ready to work hand in hand with para- athletes for a better future in sport governance, business and community leaders.
Women in Sport Dr. Michelle Vella Wood
Dr Michelle Vella Wood is a mother, scientist, athlete, coach and business owner. She has a bachelor degree with honours in Biology and Chemistry, a Master in Business Administration, a Master in Knowledge-based Entrepreneurship and a PhD in Science.
Michelle has been an athlete for over 30 years – in athletics, triathlon, rowing and cycling with National Championship titles earned in each. She has also represented Malta in several big races abroad such as the Games of the Small States of Europe in San Marino in 2017, where she won a silver medal with her team and the European Games in Baku in 2015. She is also an experienced mentor and qualified coach.
Through her business Freedom is a Bicycle she has helped people of all ages discover the joy of cycling and develop the skills needed to feel confident and safe while riding a bike.
